POLYURETHANE (PU)

HARDNESS

CODE

92° Shore 'A'

PU5/b

OPERATING TEMPERATURE:- -30°C to +100°C

POLYURETHANE material has extremely good mechanical properties such as high tensile strength, abrasion resistance

, tear strength, extrusion strength and above all good flexibility.

PU has good resistance to swelling in mineral oils, greases, water, oil mixtures, and aliphatic hydrocarbons.

PU is not resistant to polar solvents, chlorinated hydrocarbons, aromatics, brake fluids, acids and alkalis.

POLYTETRAFLUORETHYLENE (PTFE) ,

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - -200° C to + 260° C.

PTFE is commonly known by DuPont trade name TEFLON.

PTFE is characterized by its outstanding resistance to chemicals and low coefficient of friction combined with a very wide working temperature range. Only liquid alkaline metals and some fluoride compounds can attack PTFE at high pressures and temperatures.

Depending on the temperature and the load, PTFE has a tendency to creep or cold flow. For this reason Spare age does not use pure PTFE for sealing components in hydraulic systems, with the exception of back ups for O' rings. For the majority of sealing tasks, only filled PTFE materials are used reinforced with materials such as Bronze, Glass, and Graphite & Carbons.

BRONZE FILLED TEFLON (BFT),

(40% & 60% Bronze filled PTFE.)

OPERATING TEMPERATURE:--200° C to + 260° C.

It has high compressive strength, excellent wear resistance, very low cold flow, and good thermal conductivity.

GLASS FILLED TEFLON (GFT)

(15% & 25% Glass filled PTFE.)

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - -200°C to +260° C.

High compressive strength, better wear resistance, & excellent chemical resistance.

        CARBON FILLED TEFLON (CFT) ,

(15%& 25% Carbon filled PTFE.)

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - -200°C to +260° C.

High compressive strength, better wear resistance, and good thermal conductivity.

       GRAPHITE FILLED TEFLON (GRT) ,

(15%& 25% Graphite filled PTFE.)

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - -200°C to + 260° C.

High compressive strength, good chemical resistance, and improved frictional properties.

 POLYACETAL (POM)

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - -40° C to +140° C.

Commonly known by 'DuPont' trade name DELRIN.

POLYACETAL is an engineering plastic having excellent properties that bridge the gap between metals and ordinary plastics. It has high mechanical strength, rigidity, stiffness and has high resistance to repeated impacts even at elevated temperatures.

It has excellent resistance to moisture, gasoline, and many neutral chemicals. However Polyacetal is not resistant to strong acids and their service life is reduced by lengthy use in steam.

GLASS FILLED ACETAL

(20% Glass filled)

OPERATING TEMPERATURE : - 40° C to+160° C

.

This special grade of ACETAL has reinforcement of glass filler. They have improved stiffness and load bearing properties. It also has improved heat stability.

  POLYESTER ELASTOMER (TPE),

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - -50° C to+110° C.

This is Thermoplastic elastomers which combine the properties of high performance elastomers and engineering plastics. It has exceptional toughness and resilience, high resistance to impact, abrasion and extrusion. Polyester elastomers have excellent resistance to swell in oils and fuel and have good retention of properties at elevated temperatures. It is used for applications such as wipers and extrusion devices.

Hytrel is the trade name of 'DuPont' for this material.

GLASS FILLED POLYAMIDE (PA) NYLON

(30 % Glass filled )

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - -20° C to + 220°C.

Polyamides used by Spare age have glass filler reinforcement of up to 30 %. Glass Filled PA has excellent abrasion resistance, high mechanical strength, stiffness & toughness. They have good damping properties for dry-running. PA is highly suitable for wear rings in hydraulic applications.

Glass filled PA are resistant to aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, mineral oils, greases, Easter and Ketones. They are not resistant to acids, phenols and some solvents.

Polyamides usually have dimensional instability due to absorption of moisture from the atmosphere. It is overcome by using Glass Filled material.

DuPont's trade name for Nylon (PA) is Zytel.

POLYETHELENE (UHMWPE)

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - -270° C to + 80° C.

Ultra High Molecular Polyethylene has molecular weight ranging from 3.6 to 5.6 million which makes it have excellent properties such as very low coefficient of friction, good impact strength and wear resistance. It is hence used in load bearing properties. The material is self lubricating and has excellent chemical and corrosion resistance.

PHENOLIC RESIN BONDED FABRIC

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - 20° C to +120° C.

Phenolic Resin Bonded Fabric material has excellent load bearing capacity, good sliding properties and excellent resistance to wear. Phenolic resin impregnated Cotton Fabric has compressive strength that is compared to metal used for guides. The material has very good thermal stability; It can be used in all fluids which are common in hydraulic equipments, Such as mineral based oils, fire resistant hydraulic fluids (HFA, HFB, HFC, and HFD) and other organic compounds.

  POLYESTER RESIN BONDED FABRIC

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - 40° C to +120° C.

Unsaturated Polyester Resin impregnated cotton fabric has good wear resistance, good compressive strength and impact strength. The material is resistant to hydraulic fluid HFA, mineral oils ASTM no.1 & no.3 and phosphate ester.

POLYBUTYLENE TEREPHTHALATE (PBT)

OPERATING TEMPERATURE :- -30°C to + 130°C

PBT reinforced with glass fibers has excellent characteristics such as good load bearing properties, high stiffness and hardness, low wear and have excellent electrical properties. They are resistant to all the lubricants containing mineral oils, and to all hydraulic fluids, acids and alcohols. It is not resistant to strong alkalis and acids.

POLYPHENYLENE SULPHIDE (PPS)

OPERATING TEMPERATURE: - up to + 270°C.

PPS resin with 40% glass filler has excellent mechanical and chemical properties. They have very high mechanical strength; good compression set and very good wears resistance.

Polyphenylene Sulphide can withstand very high loads and high temperature and its fatigue resistance is excellent for repeated stress. It is suitable for bearing applications which demands such high properties.

Fortronis a trade name of Polyplastics Co. Ltd. for this material

POLYEHERETHER KETONE (PEEK)

(PEEK with 30% Glass Filler )

OPERATINGTEMPERATURE: upto+315° C.

PEEK has excellent resistance to various chemicals and hydraulic fluids. Its mechanical properties are moderate but have excellent heat stability. It can perform under continuous temperature of 260°C.

PEEK is very expensive compared to other engineering plastics.
